As many of you know, I owe Sunnybrook a debt that I can never fully repay - my daughter's life. Sunnybrook has identified an area where they need help. They have asked me to jump. I hope you can all help me respond, "How high?"
To that end, I’m participating in the RBC Race for the Kids Toronto to support youth mental health, and specifically the Family Navigation Project at Sunnybrook. While I have not had personal experience with this area of Sunnybrook, I have experienced firsthand the incredible impact that private fundraising has on the hospital's ability to support patients and their families.
The Family Navigation Project supports families with youth aged 13-26 with serious mental health and addiction struggles. The service provides hope and support for families not only struggling to cope, but struggling with the social stigmas attached.
As many as two million young people in Canada are struggling with mental health issues such as an anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, depression or addiction; yet only one in five will get specialized treatment. This is largely because families don’t know where to turn to find the services their children need. By sponsoring my run, you are helping youth find the right mental health support they need, when they need it most.
For those of you who know me, even a little bit, you'll know that running 5km is basically my Everest. It's not something I've successfully done in my adult life, but I will be ready on September 17th.
Please make a donation today and help me to reach my goal!
