I’m participating in the RBC Race for the Kids Toronto to support youth mental health.
There's nothing worse as a parent than seeing your child struggle or suffer, and being unable to help. Many of us are lucky enough to not need the services of the Family Navigation Project, but if I know if I did it would be very welcome that such a program exists.
The run, for me, is partly to support this important project, but also to remind me that my own health is important, and that it's a constant day-to-day challenge to find the time to be active. Achieving my goal of finishing a 5K race in Disney World in September was supposed to be the end of this silly thing (I don't run - just walk really fast!) but without a goal it's easy to say I'll be active tomorrow instead of today.
As many as two million young people in Canada are struggling with mental health issues such as an anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, depression or addiction; yet only one in five will get specialized treatment. This is largely because families don’t know where to turn to find the services their children need.
By sponsoring my run, you are helping youth find the right mental health support they need, when they need it most.
Please make a donation today and help me to reach my fundraising goal!
